Magic Mushroom Season – Liberty Caps (Psilocybe semilanceata)

Spread the love

October in the UK is when the shrooms come out.

The days are getting noticably shorter, the weather is getting colder and wetter and the thought of Christmas is a thing again but there is something that can lift the gloom and that is the fact that it is time for the magic mushrooms to make their appearance. They can usually be found in fields where sheep or cows roam around and usually in tufts of grass where moisture can gather. Once you are used to spotting them they are quite easily discernable from other, potentially poisonous mushrooms.

It is illegal to pick magic mushrooms in the UK

Now, a word of caution here because it used to be that picking psilocybe semilanceata and eating them freshly picked was totally legal. However, taking them home and preparing them in any way e.g. drying them or making tea with them was illegal. But in 2016 the UK government in their wisdom introduced the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 which, among other things, basically outlawed the picking of psilocybe semilanceata mushrooms altogether.

For that reason I am forced by law to advise that you could get arrested if you go out picking psychoactive mushrooms and we wouldn’t want that would we?

Anyway, no matter how much they try, the powers that be will never be able to stop what has been a tradition and should basically be a right to pick magic mushrooms and consume them for their spiritual effects.

What are magic mushrooms like?

If you have ever taken magic mushrooms in a safe and responsible way either alone or with friends or both, then you will almost certainly have a knowledge which the governments and rulers of people around the world have tried to supress for millennia. A type of knowledge that cannot be taught. It can only be gained through experience and when you experience it that knowledge will change your life.

So why are we ruled by laws thar prohibit their use? What is so bad that we are banned from using them?

Well it’s because they open your mind to new possibilities. It can be an incredible experience that can be both terrifying and euphoric all within the same trip. Your ways of thinking and seeing are broken down and rebuilt. You can see beautiful shapes and patterns that give you a spiritual feeling of connection and oneness. A truly spiritual experience. That’s if you’re lucky. You need to be in the correct environment to be so fortunate.

Some trips are good, some are not so good

Sometimes having a trip is spontaneous and everything falls into place but planning is key to having a good trip. Set and setting are crucial to having a safe and enjoyable ride. It’s no good if you are interrupted two or three hours into a trip with an important phone call for instance. Many stories have been told about the time when you were peaking and suddenly find yourself talking to your friends parents or other such badly timed events. It usually ends up with you and your friend uncontrollably laughing your heads off about it an hour later.
